The Gospel music world is mourning the death of the Nigerian music icon, Bunmi Adeoye, who passed away on January 12, 2026, at the age of 46. Popularly known as Omije Ojumi, she was able to carve out a place for herself in the music industry, with hit songs like, Tears of My Eyes, in the early 2000s.
Olubunmi Akinnaanu Adeoye was born on November 19, 1979, in Lagos State. She graduated from Redeemer’s University, Ede, with a degree in English language. To make income and sustain herself, she went into the Nigerian banking sector.
Omije Ojumi left her banking career to pursue her passion for gospel music. Her songs were played in churches around the world, solidifying her as a talented musician. Those seeking healing and faith played her music. Some of her popular songs are Omije Ojumi, O Ti Sure, Testimony, and Otimurewa.
Concerns grew over her health in late 2025 when a video surfaced showing her asking for prayers about her leg. This video could help indicate the cause of death; however, the exact cause of death, at this time, has not been released.
This was a shocker to the gospel music world. She was indeed loved by many, who sent well wishes to her family.
