Nigerian Police Arrest LAMATA Bus Driver Who Ran Away After Deadly Crash

A fatal crash happened at the Airport Bus Stop in Ikeja. The accident resulted in the death of a 19-year-old who was just a pedestrian.  This happened on Friday, and quickly an Investigation was launched.

The Police were able to discover evidence of the driver’s license plate. A spokesperson from the force, Mohammed Adeola, confirmed that the suspects license plate number was MUS-139-YL and had a connection with the Ashok Leyland LAMATA Bus. 

Mohammed Adeola said that the bus struck the victim shortly after she alighted and was heading toward the airport. “Through joint efforts, the driver was identified, located, and brought to the Domestic Police Division by LAMATA officials,” Adeola said. Their efforts were helped by eyewitness testimony, which gave accounts of what they saw.

Sadly, the lady who was hit by the bus was pronounced dead at the Air Force Base Hospital. Unlookers were the ones who rushed her to the hospital for urgent care, but it was too late. When the Police heard of the incident, they went to the hospital. They quickly discovered that the crash involved a LAMATA Bus. Without hesitation, they launched an investigation, and with the help of LAMATA, they were able to track the driver down.

Adeola said that the commissioner of Police, Mrs Olufunke Ogunbode, described the incident as a great loss, and urged motorists and pedestrians to obey traffic laws. Adeola added that charges will be brought against the bus driver after investigations are complete.
